School and Parent Compact

  •

    Dear Families,

The school distributes to parents and family members of Title I, Part A students, a school-parent compact (Compact). This Compact, which has been jointly developed with parents, outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. This Compact describes specific ways the school and families will partner to help children achieve the state’s high academic standards.

Rios Elementary Computer Science Magnet School believes in the Cajon Valley Modern Curriculum which leads with students exploring their possible future self through the World of Work, Presentation Literacy, Personalized and Blended Learning, Computer Science and Core Curriculum in Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies. Parents are welcome to view the curriculum materials by making an appointment with their child’s teacher or in the front office.

We encourage parents to connect with Rios and their child’s school in several ways. Parents may email or call teachers for classroom information or academic progress for their students. Additional support staff including Liaison, Counselor, Ed Specialist, and Principal are available to support families to engage with the school community. Parent / Teacher Conferences are held annually in November. If a parent would like to meet in addition to the November Conference please request a meeting with your child’s teacher or through the school office.

Parents are welcome to volunteer in the classrooms or on school campus. We ask that parents make arrangements ahead with your child’s teacher or our Liaison. Observations of classrooms can also be arranged in advance with your child’s teacher. All visitors to the school must check in through the school office.

Rios Elementary Computer Science Magnet School and our Staff want to see every student happy, healthy and successful in academics. We encourage parents to support students with home practice of reading and math, as well as exposure to careers outside of school. Families are encouraged to be a part of the Rios Community during Lunch on the Lawn, School Events, English Language Advisory Committee, School Site Council, PTA, or one of the many other ways to get involved. Feel free to reach out to our school office to help you connect to events at our school.

Rios provides Parent workshops in various areas of a student's needs through our Family Liaison. Attendance to these workshops is encouraged for families to know how to support their child further. Workshops include: Parent University, Special Education Workshop, Digital Citizenship Workshop, etc.

Our staff is loving and caring of students. They are trained in Trauma Informed Care, Poverty Simulation, Home Visits, Families in Transition, and more to support students and families. We encourage families to connect with one of our staff members for additional support. We are happy to assist in connecting families to community resources.

Our Title 1 program includes the Rios Computer Science Programs, Intervention Teacher, Liaison, Counselor and additional Before and After School activities. These programs align together to support students in a Multi Tiered system of support.

Rios Elementary School wants to reach out to you and let you know the events that are happening at school. We communicate by:

Paper communication sent home with student
Pre recorded phone calls through Blackboard Connect
    Email newsletters through Blackboard Connect
Flyers on PeachJar sent through email.

At Rios we host several family engagement events such as concerts, Showcase, Coffee with the Principal, Lunch on the Lawn, PTA events, assemblies and more. We welcome additional events requested and supported by parents. Please contact our school office if you have an event idea.

Rios Elementary is happy to support our bilingual families. We strive to have all paper, email and phone communication in English and Spanish. Additional translation requests may be made with our front office and we will do our best to facilitate requests.

This Compact was adopted by the Rios Elementary Computer Science Magnet School on September 3, 2019, and will be in effect until revised by Rios School Site Council.

The school will distribute the Compact to all parents and family members of students participating in the Title I, Part A program on, or before: October 1 of each year.

    Sincerely,

Mrs. Loether and Our School Site Council Members
