Montgomery Authorized as an IB World School

Montgomery Middle School is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Montgomery is one of six middle school in San Diego County and one of 1,800 schools worldwide to attain this distinction. The authorization comes after more than three years of being an IB candidate school in which teachers and administrators received extensive training and participated in developing the IB curriculum for Montgomery. The IB Middle Years Program provides high-quality education that encourages international-mindedness and a positive attitude to learning by inspiring students to ask challenging questions, reflect critically, develop research skills, and collaborate with peers to tackle projects that have real-world application. In addition, the Middle Years Program fosters a passion for community service as students explore the impact of their actions on society. The IB program at Montgomery is an inclusive program that encompasses the diverse student population (GATE, English Language Learners, Special Education). The world-renowned IB program has enriched the school experience for students at MMS in many ways. Our PE teachers are teaching IB units on water rescue in East County’s only middle school pool. Additionally, students get to explore various forms of technology from the Maker Lab to media arts and student-run broadcast. Students develop a second language and explore cultures from around the globe. Students can participate in programs with Granite Hills High School IB Bridge Program. The IB & Me Advisory Period where students discuss local and global issues develop school success skills, and reflect upon the Learner Profile that all IB schools foster.
