| | Welcome to Jamacha School! As the principal of Jamacha Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school's website and to give you some background and information about the school.
Jamacha Elementary School was opened in 1992. The school maintains its attractive, clean and well-cared-for appearance due to the continued efforts of our outstanding custodial staff. The facility boasts a large, carpeted multi-purpose room, an outdoor amphitheatre, a state-of-the-art computer lab, and 21 child-centered classrooms. This school year there are three kindergarten rooms, two 1st grades, a 1/2 combination, four 2nd grades, one 2/3 combination, three 3rd grades, two 4th grades, a 4/5 combination, two 5th grades, and two special day classes. Teachers work cooperatively in grade level teams with the Grade Level Chairs actively involved in a decision-making role with the principal.
Our Academic Performance Index (API) score for the 2006-07 school year was 868. The California State goal for all schools in the state is 800 so Jamacha has proudly exceeded State expectations. I would attribute this to excellent teaching, strong parent support, and a focus on State Standards to guide the instructional program.
The school has many unique features. The school is fortunate to have many active parent volunteers who are present and welcome on campus on a daily basis. We also have a very involved PTA, and a unique parent non-profit foundation, JUST (Jamacha United Support Team), both of which financially support the school through their fund raising efforts. This financial assistance allows us to provide many "extras" for our school, such as assemblies, field trip opportunities, classroom aides, and an art consultant who provides art lessons to all kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms. In addition, the school has an updated computer lab and many after-school activities such as Mad Science, Chess Club, Sonshine Club, Brownies, Girl Scouts, karate, and gymnastics.
The staff is comprised of twenty-four classroom teachers and twenty support staff members. The entire staff is very dedicated to delivering a quality instructional program to students in a child-centered, caring environment. Children in this school are taught life-long skills, including skills in technology that will enable them to function successfully in the world beyond elementary school.
Jamacha is a very safe school. The past eleven years show few instances of student suspension and minor vandalism reported. We take pride in letting children know that our expectation for them is to behave in a safe, orderly and positive manner and we delight in watching them respond to our expectation.
The school uses its Mission Statement as a guide for making decisions and implementing programs. The Mission Statement is as follows:
The mission of Jamacha Elementary is to create well-rounded students who develop the skills that lead to lifelong happiness and allow them to serve as productive members of our society.
This year at Jamacha, we will continue to offer a Character Education Program that focuses on kindness and effort. Frequent activities supporting these qualities are implemented in the classroom with various school-wide activities supporting our efforts.
If you have any questions, please contact us through e-mail or by calling the school.
Most sincerely, Dana Stevenson Principal
